Moonlight and Gold

Moonlight and gold
Midsummer magic when the night turns to day
And songbirds greet the dawn
You lie awake
You watch and wonder while the moon fades away
And one more day is born.

Tides keep on turning, while hearts keep on yearning
To be where they know they belong
All on a new day, you see in a new way
The things you've been leaning upon.

Moonlight and gold
I will awaken to a love that runs deeper
Than the need in me.

While you are sleeping, the new day comes creeping
And life keeps on passing you by
Magic unfolds when the blue meets the gold
And the sun comes to open your eyes.

Moonlight and gold
Midsummer magic when the night turns to day
And songbirds greet the dawn
You lie awake
You watch and wonder while the moon fades away
And one more day is born.

Oh yeah

Gerry Rafferty, born in Scotland, father Irish, mother Scottish, celtic consoler, one of those "girls", like my friend Groover, being one himself, calls them, those males which are for all times harassed as
"soft-egs" on the schoolgrounds of this world ... one of those wounded souls, which give us comfort,  as we are here now  in this wonderfull horrible world, because being able to hear the music, humming in all of us and to change it into songs, that  also  we can hear it and can dance ... within ous soul and outside.
And he was one of these precious Scottish melancholiacs in whome the Moonlight on the waves turned directly into songs and sounds.

We still have Scott Mark Knopfler, but Gerry has left this world yesterday.
Wellcome Gerry within our dead in this hell of a band in heaven.

For  fare- well now  some pearls dived by Gerry off the grounds of the common soul-sea and some comments of this day:

You know I need your love, you got that hold over me
As long as I got your love, you know that I’ll never leave
When I wanted you to share my life, I had no doubt in my mind
And it’s been you, woman, right down the line.

I know how much I lean on you, only you can see
The changes that I’ve been through have left their mark on me
You’ve been as constant as the Northern Star, the brightest light that shines
It’s been you, woman, right down the line.

I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of telling you that everyday I’m loving you (so much more)

‘Cause you believed in me through my darkest night
Put something better inside of me, you brought me into the light
Threw away all those crazy dreams, I put them all behind
And it was you, woman, right down the line.

I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of telling you that everyday I’m loving you (so much more)

If I should doubt myself, if I’m losing ground
I won’t turn to someone else, they’d only let me down
When I wanted you to share my life, I had no doubt in my mind
And it’s been you, woman, right down the line.

When my parents were dating... the first record my dad bought my mom was this.. and he wrote on it, "To my Princess, because he says it so much better than I ever could." As a child, my mom and I home alone... she would play this for us on full blast... it was so much more than a great song, it was their song, and represented a love that was in turn responsible for me.... the world lost a great spark today...

  Whatever's Written in Your Heart

(Yeah, night and day and day)

Wakin’ up here on a rainy day
I swore last time that I would stay away
I came down here to talk to you
I said this time I might get through.

I heard us speak but all the words were dead
We talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.

Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that
matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that
matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.

You’ve got your secrets yeah and I’ve got mine
We’ve played this game now for a long long time
You don’t lean on anyone
You never had no place to run.

You never wanted me to get too close
We love and hate the ones we need the most
I tried to find a way to you
One thing I could say to you.

Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that
matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that
matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.

Maybe I’ve always set my sights too high
You take the easy way and still get by
I know there ain’t no special way
We all get there anyway.

I heard us speak but all the words were dead
Talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.

Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that
matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that
matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.

(fade)
Yeah, Night and day and day
Yeah, Night and day and day
(whatever’s written in your heart)

This fantastic song said everything for me when I was going thru a heartbreakingly painful relationship 22 years ago. Poignant lyrics, beautiful vocal. What a talent. Sad that his last few years weren't happier. Comments here so touching. Goodnight Gerry, bless you & thank you for the music you left us.

                                                                           The Ark

See the dark night has come down on us
The world is livin’ in its dream
But now we know that we can wake up from this sleep
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

The time has come to trust that guiding light
And leavin’ all the rest behind
We’ll take the road that leads down to the waterside
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we’ll sail out on the water
Yes we’ll feel the sea grow
Yes we’ll meet out on the water
Where are all strangers are known.

If you travel blindly, if you fall
The truth is there to set you free
And when your heart can see just one thing in this life
We’ll set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we’ll sail out on the water
Yes we’ll feel the sea grow
Yes we’ll meet out on the water
Where are all strangers are known.

See the dark night has come down on us
The world is livin’ in its dream
But now we know that we can wake up from this sleep
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way.

And we’ll sail out on the water
Yes we’ll feel the sea grow
Yes we’ll meet out on the water
Where are all strangers are known.
This song heals my soul! It gives me comfort so that I can sleep at night! As a former paratrooper, i've seen things that have scarred my soul. Right after I got married....there were nights where my wife would have to pin me down, sitting on my chest. She hated having music playing at bed time...well after a few of my episodes...she learned to deal with it! The Good Lord blessed us with Gerry Rafferty! And I am blessed with one incredible wife....my best friend!

In a dance hall by the river, I was singing in a travelling band
Just another small town night, with a silver moon shining
I remember when I saw you, that first moment when it all began
You looked across a crowded room, and stole my heart away.

And we stood out in the moonlight, in the shadow of a factory wall
Music playing soft and low, and a gentle breeze sighing
And the light on the river was magic, yes a magic that I still recall
Moments come and moments go, but these moments still remain.

Remember how we met, down by the waterside
How easily we forget, all the love that we knew.

So we married our fortunes together, and we sealed it with a golden band
But somewhere down along the road, we could see the flame dying
Now an exiled heart gets weary, like two strangers in a foreign land
We reached the point of no return, a long long time ago.

Remember how we met, down by the waterside
How easily we forget, all the love that we knew.

Dieses ist ein Tag zum hören, zum lesen und zum weinen und zum danken - wunderbares menschliches Internet.

Night comes down and finds you alone
In a space and time of your own
Lost in dreams in a world full of shadows.

Down the street the neon light shines
Offering refuge and hope to the blind
You stumble in with no thought of tomorrow.

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can’t say no.

Oh no no no
No no no no

The lights are low and the Muzak is loud
You watch yourself as you play to the crowd
One more face in a palace of mirrors.

One more drink, you’re sailing away
One more dream but it’s looking ok
One more time to watch the flow of the river.

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can’t say no.

Oh no no no
No no no no no no no oooooooh

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can’t say no.

Oh no no no
No no no no

You’ve seen it all yeah you’ve seen it before
Like a fool you always come back for more
You live your life like there was no more tomorrow.

Night comes down and finds you alone
In a space and time of your own
Lost in dreams in a world full of shadows.

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can’t say no.

Oh no no no
Oh no no no
No no no no
No no no no
No no
No no
Oooooooooooh
